LPG sector convenes in Genoa for Hugely Successful AEGPL Congress

Just 7 months since the last AEGPL Congress in London, the LPG industry convened last week for its key annual exhibition and conference in Genoa, Italy.

More than 1,300 people in total were present for the two day combined trade show and conference. Almost 300 of those participants attended the conference sessions covering a wide range of topics of interest to the LPG sector – from the heating and Autogas markets to international supply, innovation and regulatory topics. The conference keynote was delivered by Mr. Carlo Pettinelli, a senior official at the Directorate for Industry and Enterprise at the European Commission, who offered an overview of the energy and environment policy and the key role to be played by the energy sector.

Among the highlights from the conference was a presentation from scientist Eric Johnson, who presented  pathways to bio-LPG that could change the face of supply in the future, Federico Galliano of General Motors, who gave an overview of GM alternative fuel strategy, and Nick Black of Argus Media, who delivered an assessment of the latest global LPG trading trends in front of large audience at the beginning of the second day. Delegates also enjoyed a number of presentations showcasing innovation in the sector, and the intervention of Elisabetta Biondi of the Italian Ministry of Finance, who presented the Italian position on the ever-important EU Energy Taxation Directive.

Alongside the conference, the AEGPL exhibition – the second biggest LPG trade show to take place globally each year, saw almost 100 companies from 25 different countries exhibiting equipment and services that play a key role in the safe and efficient distribution of LPG. Buyers from 75 countries on 5 continents visited the event.

Commercial presentations from a number of the exhibitors were held in the exhibition in front of audiences of up to 50 people. The presentations showcased some of the latest technologies available to the LPG sector.

AEGPL General Manager Samuel Maubanc said, “We have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants,  and have seen a very high turnout for both the exhibition and the conference. The Italian LPG sector have been wonderful hosts – playing a key role in the preparations and strongly supporting the Congress with their sponsorship and attendance. We look forward to taking this success forward to Berlin in 2015.”

Next year will see the Congress moving to Berlin, Germany on May 20th-21st 2015, which promises to be an exciting destination for a another great event, with the exhibition almost 90% sold-out more than one year in advance.
