AEGPL organised a Workshop on the implementation of the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Directive

On October 27th, AEGPL organised a workshop for its members on the implementation of the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Directive. Experts from LPG national associations met to discuss the contribution that Autogas, automotive LPG, can provide to the member states’ and to the European Union’s climate and environmental goals. In addition, the participants were given the chance to listen to and exchange views with the European Commission. The National Plans have to be submitted by Member States by November 2016 and Member State should include in them the measures they are planning to put in place in order to stimulate the uptake of alternative fuels in the transport sector.

AFID Workshop

The discussion was lively and several interesting points were made on what the most adequate measures would be to stimulate the uptake of alternatively fuelled vehicles and the creation of the adequate infrastructure. AEGPL highlighted that Autogas is a low-hanging fruit for the EU, as it is a mature technology, with an established network of infrastructure, which means that the costs of further improving it are extremely low. For this reason, we believe that LPG is an already available solution to immediately start tackling climate change and fighting air pollution and should, therefore, be given the appropriate attention by EU and national authorities alike.
